William Benton Museum of Art

TODAY: Develop your critical thinking skills by learning to look at objects with a critical eye from 12:15 – 12:45pm.  Join us for a close looking and discussion focused on a single artwork in the Benton's collection.  This skill can be transferred to navigating everyday life, your job or studies. 

The William Benton Museum of Art is Connecticut’s state art museum with a collection of more than 6,500 works dating from the 15th to the 21st centuries. The museum annually presents 10-12 exhibitions of art from its collection and from loaned works. Lectures, gallery talks, salon discussions, campus art walks, musical performances, and drawing sessions are among the museum’s popular programs. Bring your family over to do a fun scavenger hunt (for all ages) in our exhibition galleries and pick up a one of a kind art sticker. Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry

The Ballard Institute and Museum of Puppetry is one of America’s hidden treasures—a superb collection of over 2,500 puppets from all over the world; an archive of books, manuscripts, posters, drawings, audio-visual materials and photographs all covering the history of puppetry. We encourage you to stop by and see all of our treasures. While the main galleries at the Ballard Institute will be closed for exhibit installation, the museum will remain open during normal business hours, and The World of Puppetry: From the Collections of the Ballard Institute will be on display in the lobby.

Family Weekend Check-In

Farm Friday at Spring Valley Student Farm

Time: 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Location: 104 Spring Manor Lane, Mansfield, CT

A representative from the group of eleven students, living and working at UConn Spring Valley Student Farm (SVSF), will lead visitors on a guided tour of the fields, greenhouses, edible forest garden and apiary. The students cultivate a wide variety of vegetables, herbs, edible flowers, honey and small fruits, for use on campus, using organic growing methods. Visitors will also have the opportunity to learn how SVSF acts as a Living Learning Laboratory. The tour will include on-going research projects including Aquaponic System, Solar Thermal, Solar Photovoltaic, Air Quality Sampling, Sustainable Community Food Systems immersion program and Field Research in Regenerative Horticulture.  SVSP can be reached at (860) 508-7706 for additional information, including directions to the farm.
