10:00 am – 4:00 pm THE ECCENTRICS: The Evolution of the Eighties – Costume Exhibit
Welcome to the Eighties.  Go back to the last time when clothing was designed with a theatrical flair.  Back to the time of disco and drag queens trying to lift up the souls of a society that was overwhelmed with the AIDS epidemic.  This was a time when life was lived to its fullest as it became more and more precious. Cher and her designer Bob Mackie continued to push the boundaries of theatricality.  At the same time the country was enthralled with the television series Dynasty and its megastar Joan Collins, who became a symbol for the feminist movement and women’s power.  The eighties, which was the era of Ronald Reagan, saw the beginning of the personal computer, MTV, and the destruction of the Berlin Wall.  Today there is a revival of theatricality in dress, so it seemed an appropriate time to have a look at the wonderful eclectic movement at the end of the 20th century.
Jorgensen Galley at the Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts
10:00 am – 4:30 pm William Benton Museum of Art

Lectures, gallery talks, forum discussions, campus art walks, musical performances, and drawing sessions are among the museum’s popular programs.
